Swargadwari Holy Tour

SWARGADWARI: Literally, Swargadwari means‘gateway to heaven’. This exotic place is located within the periphery of very good atmosphere. We can see some beautiful mountains like Mt. Dhaulagiri, Macchapuchre, Annapurna, Lamjung, Himchuli, Manaslu, Churen, and Puthal. This place is more famous for religious importance than its natural beauty.

Pyuthan’s Swargadwari (2,048 meters) has both significant name and fame considered as a holy place of Hindus. It is believed that the great god of Hindu Lord Brahma had meditated here and the five Pandab brothers entered heaven from this place. That is why the name of this place is derived from them Swargadwari (Gateway to Heaven).

There is an ample space to worship inside the temple. It looks as if there are nine separate temples there but actually there is only one. There are numerous sculptures like that of the Panchayan Goddesses, Lord Ganesh and Lord Shiva, the Sun god, Lord Vishnu and other. The pilgrims can see four separate sections from where the flames of fire arise. The continuous series of smoke comes from the middle section where the priests worship god, read religious books and carry out holy rituals.

We can find more than hundred cows in the temple area. There is also a Gurukul where grammar, holy books of Hindu religion and culture are taught.  Hansananda Giri who had faith in meditation from his childhood made this temple in 1952 B.S. He started a huge ‘PUJA’ for the welfare of the world. Narayan Gautama from Ropla’s Rumti village who was born in 1916 B.S. started his life as a person of meditation since the age of five. He did great things to the society and to the nation eventually. This incredible personality died in 1997 B.S.

In this temple, the Gateway to Heaven, there is a massive flow of Indian pilgrims than the Nepalese. A huge crowd is gathered in the auspicious occasion of ‘Baisakh Purnima’, Teacher’s Day and Cow Tihar and in the month of ‘Poush and Magh’. During such holy Jatra there may be some difficulties to make proper arrangements of accommodation and food just around the main temple. However, at Dharampani which is below the hill, we can find few shops and lodges. Moreover, many pilgrims’ houses are also available there though. Paying some amount of money we can book rooms there. There is also a canteen that serves typical Rice and Daal. While observing the condition of pilgrims who come to worship here, we all think that more hotels need to be established in the days to come.

Blessed with religious and natural beauties, this place is perfect for meditation, trying out rituals and worships. So, if the concerned authorities take full responsibility towards this holy temple then lots of things can get better. Then, more people who want to pursue to have peace in their mind and soul would get to this place and would get attracted. We can take ‘Timur’ and beautiful photos of the area as souvenirs.
