Mount Kumbhakarna 7,710m. Expedition (Jannu) autumn 2017

Kumba Karna Expedition

Just 11 km west of summit of Kanchanjunga, there is another beautiful peak Mount Kumbhakarna at an altitude of 7,710m.  Though the peak is not at that much height it is very difficult to step on its summit pyramid that is steep on all sides. The first used and "standard" route is complex and difficult, though not extreme, route up the southeast Ridge, from the Yamatari Glacier. Neighboring peak Jannu East, 7468m, was not climbed until 1997. You do not need to be experienced but you must be familiar with alpine environments and must understand the risks that camping and climbing above the snowline posture. Nepal or Pakistan trekking experience or long route hiking experience is worthy too. Please feel free to discuss with us if need any further assistance.

The name of this mountain is kept on the name of the younger brother of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, who fought with Lord Ram in the Epic Mythology of Ramayan .Giant Kumbhakarna sleeps for six months and eats for six months. Once, Kumbhakarna did hard penance and Lord Bhrama was very much pleased and asked him to have him some boon; and the giant asked to give him boon of six month’s sound sleep and six month’s relishing food.  Lord Bhrama offered him the blessings and then he started to sleep in such long sound sleep that even if someone marched right through his body, he wouldn’t notice. So if someone sleeps more in Nepal then he is given the name of Kumbhakarna, the giant. This mountain seems sleeping soundly without being disturbed that very few expeditions are made so far.
