Tibet, a province-level distractive region of China, located in a high mountain area in the south-western part is one of the most visited pilgrimages in the world as it is a sacred home to Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake. Devotees of five different religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Bonpo religion accept the challenging journey to these holy spots to attain release from the clutches of ignorance and illusion. It is believed to be the place where the founder of these religions meditated and resided once. For Hindus, Mount Kailash is the exclusive abode of Lord Shiva and his consort Parvati. Buddhist identifies it as a place where Lord Buddha got enlightenment. Bonpo worship Mount Kailash as their savior. Though their perception is different their faith is on the existence of gods and goddess at this holy spot. The silvery peak Kailash Parvat with an elevation of 6714 meters is an epitome of beauty and believed to be the ‘Soul of the universe’ which provides peace from within and rest of the world to the visitors. It is also the source to four prominent rivers of Asia namely, The Brahmaputra, The Ganges, The Indus and The Sutlej.
Manasarovar Lake; The name of this Lake, Mansarovar is derived from Sanskrit language, the word ‘Manas’ means mind or consciousness and ‘Sarovar’ means Lake. It is situated at an altitude of 4580 meters above the sea level. As Mount Kailash, this Lake also has deeply embedded religious and spiritual influence among Hindus and Buddhists. Circumambulating Mansarovar Lake and taking a holy dip in it is believed to purge one’s soul from sins and the body from sickness. It is believed that one can retain youth and vitality taking dip into its pure water. Ancient legends said that taking a dip in it helps one attain Moksha (free from the cycle of birth and re-birth in worldly life). Mansarovar Lake is so big, for making round on foot. It takes 3 days for locals and other pilgrims may take 5-7 days for the same rotation. The mesmerizing view of birds and wild ducks swimming in the Lake surrounded by the spiritual fragrances is inviting you to venture it once.
